In the mid 80’s I happened to meet a most talented young man, Bobby McFerrin. I invited him to my Summer Jazz Camp, where he just blew everybody away. Not many new of him in those days and I found him to be a most challenging person to describe. “ Bobby is hip, he makes all of these great sounds, he can perform the whole show of The Wizard of Oz.. by himself, he sounds like three people, … well he is Bobby McFerrin.” Bobby, along with Russell Ferrante composed Freedom Is A Voice, Tim Buchholz was able to capture the essence of song in this arrangement and now it can be sung by choral groups everywhere. What a fantastic way to end your next concert.
